Kim qualified in medicine in 1982 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and has been a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in Sunderland since 1994. He was Director of Research & Innovation for 10 years and a Visiting Professor at the University of Sunderland.
During the early 1990s, Kim helped to develop medical management of miscarriage (i.e. a non-surgical approach to uterine evacuation), increasing the options available for women who miscarry, and who prefer to avoid surgery. He has been a co-applicant for several nationally-funded early pregnancy trials, and led a clinical research team which has contributed to NIHR research trials in both miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. He has recently retired from clinical practice, but remains actively involved in teaching & training, with interests in human factors, leadership skills, & emergency obstetric skills/drills training. Outside of medicine he loves spending time with his grandson Lewis, playing golf, watching rugby and driving his Aston Martin (….a self-acknowledged ‘midlife crisis’ purchase!)
