Dr Michael Gannon

Dr Gannon is Head of Department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St John of God Subiaco Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. He is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist specialising in medical problems in pregnancy and pregnancy loss. He works in the Perinatal Loss Service at King Edward Memorial Hospital and is Deputy Chair of the Western Australian Perinatal and Infant Mortality Committee.

Dr Gannon graduated from the University of Western Australia, before training at Royal Perth Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital.

In 2004-05 Dr Gannon was Assistant Master of the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. In 2005-06 he was a Senior Specialist Registrar, training in Maternal Medicine and Urogynaecology at Watford General Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital Paddington, before returning home to Perth to establish his Consultant practice.

Dr Gannon was President of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Western Australia between 2014 and 2016. At the same time, he was the Chair of the Federal AMA Ethics & Medicolegal Committee. In 2016 he was elected National President of the AMA, stepping down from that role in May 2018.

Dr Gannon is a Member of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australia’s peak funding body for medical research, with a budget of just under a billion dollars per annum. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Chair of Finance at Medical Defence Association (MDA) National.

Dr Gannon is a Member of the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), the Melbourne Cricket Club, East Perth Football Club and West Coast Eagles Football Club.
