Trainee 2

The Trainee Perspective: 2

As a junior doctor working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, during an on-call shift I am usually referred three or four patients with ‘query ectopics’ from General Practitioners and the Accident and Emergency department. The diagnosis of the condition is not always straightforward and the management can be varied depending on size and location of the embryo.

I have found the Ectopic Pregnancy Foundation website and an extremely useful learning tool and it has afforded me confidence in primary assessment and in initiating management of patients with possible ectopic pregnancies. I plan to attend the 1-day course run by the foundation on diagnosis and management of ectopic pregnancy, which has been highly recommended by senior colleagues.

A number of trainees, including myself, plan to run the London Marathon for the Ectopic Pregnancy Foundation.
