Katherine Belessiotis is a 5th year graduate student at University College London Medical School (UCLMS), who has been considering a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the past ten years!

Since 2005, Katherine has been carrying out self-organised placements in Women’s Health around the world during her summer holidays and was really looking forward to getting involved in her rotations at medical school.

After completing her undergraduate BSc. in Anatomy & Developmental Biology (First Class Honours) at University College London, Katherine chose to pursue a career in Medicine.

She was introduced to the Ectopic Pregnancy Foundation through her Supervisor, Mr L Irvine, whilst on placement at Watford General Hospital and has since been enjoying exploring the variety of resources the website has to offer. It is an excellent resource for medical students to practice MCQs (and receive a certificate of completion!), get a feel for surgical options via video links, and enroll on surgical skills training courses! Next year Katherine is hoping to carry out a Special Study Unit in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Singapore General Hospital, as well as an elective placement in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Botswana.

Katherine is an avid classical ballet and contemporary dancer, gaining Honorary Life Membership to University College London Union Dance Society this year, and having directed a sell-out annual show at the Bloomsbury Theatre in 2013. She also loves running, having participated in the Brussels 20km for her mother’s charity in 2013, and is hoping to raise funds for the Ectopic Pregnancy Foundation in her next race. This year she is acting Vice President for Education for the Senior Years at UCLMS and will recommend the Ectopic Pregnancy Foundation as a curriculum resource for current and prospective students.
